My approach to my work is grounded in compassion, professionalism and collaboration. However you choose to work with me, whether through counselling, psychotherapy or ADHD coaching, my aim is to create a safe, inclusive space where you can better understand yourself and move forward in a way that feels right for you.
My career in mental health began in the mid-1990s, when I trained as a mental health nurse. Since then, I’ve gained extensive clinical experience across the UK, USA and Australia, supporting people with a wide range of neurodevelopmental and mental health experiences. These have included ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, dementia, eating disorders and eating distress, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and personality disorders, as well as significant life changes and periods of emotional difficulty that don’t always come with a diagnosis or label.
I am a Registered Nurse with the UK’s Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), with professional registration in both mental health nursing and general adult nursing, and I practise in accordance with the NMC Code. My nursing background, together with the ethical standards of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society and the Universal Coaching Alliance, informs how I work and underpins my commitment to confidentiality, safeguarding, integrity, and safe, responsible practice.
I work integratively, bringing together counselling, psychotherapy and coaching, and drawing on person-centred, cognitive behavioural (CBT) and Gestalt approaches. This means we can work in a way that responds to you, your circumstances and what you hope to achieve, rather than expecting you to fit a particular model or way of working.

I am passionate about supporting adults with ADHD because I know it affects far more than attention; it can also influence self-esteem, emotions, relationships, and daily life in deeply personal and complex ways.
I have firsthand experience of living with ADHD, as I was diagnosed at 40. I experienced years of outward success, but constant feelings of overwhelm, burnout, and self-doubt, and I want to help anyone navigating similar challenges. I completed the UK’s first accredited ADHD coaching programme and became a Professional Member of the Universal Coaching Alliance (UCA) and the ADHD Coaches Organization (ACO) to become an ADHD coach.
Alongside my coaching practice, I am formally trained and experienced in conducting ADHD diagnostic assessments with adults and children. My training was undertaken with leading consultant psychiatrists on Harley Street and within specialist NHS services in London. My assessments are conducted in accordance with NICE guidance, the Adult ADHD Assessment Quality Assurance Standard (AQAS) and NHS standards.
I hold an honorary contract as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in ADHD within a leading London NHS service. Alongside my ADHD assessment experience, this clinical expertise means I can support you at different stages of your ADHD journey, from exploring whether an assessment may be appropriate to understanding a diagnosis and identifying practical ways forward.
Alongside my coaching and assessment practice, I am proud to be a Professor of Mental Health Nursing Education at King’s College London, where I previously led the Department of Mental Health. I also hold honorary and visiting professorships at Queen’s University Belfast and the University of Virginia in the USA. I have published widely, including authoring the Mental Health Nursing Skills textbook used in nursing programmes worldwide.
I am also the author of the multi-award-winning book Curing Queers: Mental Nurses and their Patients, 1935–1974, which investigates the history of mental health treatment of LGBTQI+ individuals in the mid-20th century. This demonstrates my longstanding dedication to inclusive, compassionate care and to challenging the stigma still surrounding both mental health and queer identities today.
Whether you’re seeking coaching, counselling or an assessment, my aim is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can gain clarity, feel understood, and take steps towards a life that feels more manageable and fulfilling.
